WE BECOME SILENT’  A documentary about the threat to medical freedom of choice. May 10, 2007 -  Update on the FDA Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAM) Guidelines  - From Dr. Laibow MD: "Only 1 US Senator Stood Up for You on May 9. Bernard Sanders, an Independent Senator from Vermont, is the only member of the US Senate who has the decency to stand up for your health against the financial and political power of the Pharmaceutical industry.  His was the only negative vote when Senator Edward Kennedy's deadly, corrupt, and financially incestuous bill, S.1082, came to a vote yesterday on the floor of the Senate.  Every other voting member of the Senate, whether the "New Broom" Democrats or the "Hold the line" Republicans surrendered your health, your money and what ever shreds of their honor they were still clinging to, when they voted to adopt S. 1082, the FDA Revitalization Act of 2007.

For shame that they voted for a bill that eliminates the concept of "conflict of interest" and allows FDA regulators to virtually totally dependent on huge "User Fees" from the very companies they are seeking to regulate.  For shame that  the US Senate passed a bill that extends the already corrupt power of an organization which oversees the use of drugs which are now known to be the single largest killer of the citizens of the United States and every other industrialized nation WHEN USED PROPERLY.

For shame that they took no steps to protect food and dietary supplements, the single greatest economic competitor to pharmaceutical profits from a marauding FDA which already seeks to put the competition, natural medicine, out of business.  For shame that this Senate could not protect the American people from the same FDA which has issued their FDA Guidance on the Regulation of CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) which Representative Ron Paul, MD (R, TX) calls an abuse of the power of the FDA.

This damaging and probably illegal alliance between the drug companies and the agency which is charged with regulating them now goes to the House of Representatives.  It is your job and mine to provide a roar of outrage and a tidal wave of direction to the men and women whom we have elected to represent us and do it far, fat better than the members of the Senate have."  Dr. Laibow MD.  Take action:

The FDA has a long history of attacking and suppressing health freedoms.  A new FDA "guidance" document, published on the FDA's website, reveals plans to reclassify virtually all vitamins, supplements, herbs and even vegetable juices as FDA-regulated drugs. Massage oils and massage rocks will be classified as "medical devices" and require FDA approval. The document is called Docket No. 2006D-0480. Draft Guidance for Industry on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Products and Their Regulation by the Food and Drug Administration.  Visit the FDA's website  for more information.  The FDA is accepting public comments on the docket until April 30th 2007. They tried to sneak this under the radar, but word got out and now the natural health community is up in arms over this rule. If you wish to protect your access to nutritional supplements, herbs, essential oils, homeopathic medicine or any other "complementary" or "alternative" modality, it is crucial that you take action to post your comments with the FDA right now and write your representatives in Washington to put a stop to this outrageous effort to destroy natural medicine. (And be sure to really write them. Just sending an email has virtually no impact compared to writing a physical letter in your own words.) Only public outcry can stop this assault on your health and your freedom.  Tell everyone in your circle of influence, professionals, alternative practitioners, nutrient and herb companies, everyone!  Let them know how important their participation is to make sure the FDA backs off from this repressive course.  Click here, or cut and paste the url: http://tinyurl.com/2u7ghc and fill out the form at the bottom of the page.

FDA Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAM) Guidelines  News Target writes - "A careful reading of the new CAM Guidelines published by the Food and Drug Administration reveals that items used in religious ceremony are now subject to being regulated as drugs or medical devices. Holy water, annointing oils, prayer beads, rosaries and even religious paintings or sculptures can now be classified as drugs or medical devices and essentially outlawed by the FDA.  Essentially, ANY object to which a therapeutic value is claimed can be classified as a medical device. So if a church says that prayer beads have a therapeutic effect on a person, the FDA suddenly deems those prayer beads to be medical devices. ANY oil or water to which a therapeutic value is claimed is considered a "drug." Holy water, for example, which is often described as imparting a therapeutic effect upon those who consume it or come into contact with it, is quite clearly considered a "drug" by the FDA and could easily be regulated as such. It's not what's in the water that counts, it's the claims attributed to it. Any object can be instantly transformed into a "medical device" by simply stating that it has some sort of therapeutic effect on a person. As a result, YOUR religious practices could be regulated by the FDA, and any person in your church who uses objects in healing, enhancing or providing therapeutic benefits to other individuals could be arrested for "practicing medicine without a license."

Natural Solutions to Weight Problems  You may have been on many diets and you may have even spent hundreds of dollars trying to lose weight with pills, powders, herbs, high protein diets, low-fat and no-fat diets, packaged foods, weight loss clinics, and the list goes on and on. Chemicals, such as pesticides, dyes, pigments, perfumes and flavorings--to which humans are exposed on a daily basis--may alter metabolic functions and promote weight gain, according to Dr. Paula Baillie-Hamilton, M.D., Ph.D. Toxins that affect hormones, neurotransmitters and other control mechanisms may upset the balance that helps maintain healthy body weight. Most people who struggle with an overweight condition blame themselves for lack of discipline or willpower but environmental health specialist Dr. Paula Baillie-Hamilton, M.D., Ph.D. explains how chemicals in pesticides, plastics, cosmetics, cleaning solvents, and many other common products build up to toxic levels in our bodies, alter metabolic functions and promote weight gain, musculoskeletal disorders and childhood health problems. Dr. Young PhD,  writes that the primary culprit behind excessive weight gain, as well as many other health problems, is a chronic state of acidity in the body (a pH value below 7.1). Shifting the body’s chemistry to a more alkaline pH, they maintain, will quickly and easily result in the loss of excess weight and the buildup of more lean muscle tissue.
